Our community was not informed of the location prior to approval. We are a quiet rural community of Farmers, Ranchers and Homesteaders living in a county with only 5,000 residents. There is no zoning because it was never needed......until things like this happen. The location is on the edge of Prairie county where it can draw upon the populations of the adjacent counties.
This location will sit off of Highway 38 at the entrance of a neighborhood where families with a least 30 children reside and where a bus stop is located. For those who know this location, when told of the plans, the overwhelming question is "Why there?" Why would they not locate this in a city or town that is zoned commercial for retail sales? Why in a neighborhood with no other businesses around?
From the MMC approving the permit. Lawyer states the Speakeasy Dispensary went out and beat pavement with the local community. Also claims that they got a petition with 250 prairie County Residents signatures, when in fact the petitions were from Lonoke and White County residents. The only contact they had with residents this directly affects were a select handful of people from Newberry Drive, not included were neighbors whose property are attached to proposed site, nor surrounding area.
